About the program
Bears First is designed to help students establish a strong first year of academic success by providing personalized coaching and advising, facilitating the development of individual academic success plans, and formalizing connections to campus resources and supports. Participants are identified through the Office of Admissions and many of the students identify as first-generation. Participation in Bears First establishes a foundation for success at UNC through a structured approach to personalized proactive coaching and advising in an inclusive and caring environment.
Why give to the Bears First program?
Financial stress is one of the largest barriers to Bears First students. For some, not knowing how they will pay for their textbooks or tuition for the current semester is a daily concern that impacts their ability to do their best in their classes.
How will your gift be used?
Every dollar donated will go directly to a Bears First student entering their second year. Scholarship recipients regularly participate in program activities, are in good academic standing, and have demonstrated a commitment to doing their best at UNC. Students with high financial need are prioritized.
