About the Marcus Garvey Cultural Center

The Marcus Garvey Cultural Center (MGCC) staff strives to create a safe, inclusive community for all students, staff, and faculty at the University of Northern Colorado. As a Center focused on advocacy, the MGCC staff seeks to create a space where Black, African, and African American diasporic students and historically marginalized groups feel connected to UNC and empowered throughout their collegiate experience.

How will Bears Give Back donations be used?

Your gift today will be used to support three key initiatives in 2023-24:

  • Franklin Arts Residency
    • Semester-long residency for a student award for a student exploring a creative project
  • David D. Powell Beauty Supply
    • This resource is available to all Black, African, & African American diasporic students, where you can check out various hair products & styling tools specifically for your hair type.
  • Black Male Initiative (BMI)
    • Program for black male-identified students to explore school and life

Our center provides essential education services and allows students to explore, understand, and celebrate the history of marginalized individuals. Your gift supports our efforts.

The Garvey has brought so much to my life and has allowed me to find a group of people that I feel comfortable around that also look like me. So, give back, and thank you!
